My Approach

In my practice, I utilize an integrative wellness approach and several evidence-based treatments to ensure your success. My primary modalities for mental wellness and deep healing are EMDR, Hypnotherapy, EFT, and Somatic therapies since these allow you to internally experience and integrate the change you desire into your entire being. Only after you’ve successfully experienced and incorporated the change into your body/your whole being, as well as your mind, can you change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This allows you to experience personal transformation. For example, you can probably write a detailed paper on your symptoms, such as anger, anxiety, depression, nightmares, insomnia, hypervigilance, etc. Does having the ability to explain it in detail help you to change the behavior?

Many of today’s therapeutic solutions for depression, anxiety, anger, and trauma revolve around just talking about the problem at a superficial level and using a Band-Aid approach to treatment.  This approach makes many feel hopeless that they’ll never be able to resolve the issue for which they sought treatment.  I know your circumstances are unique, and we’ll work together to choose the proper treatment for your needs.

My approach is client-centered, growth-oriented, nonjudgemental, non-pathologizing, and based on support and compassion for you as an individual in our challenging society.  I aim to provide a welcoming and engaging environment where you can be comfortable being yourself and where deep healing can occur.

I believe you are not a sum of your symptoms.  Your symptoms are merely overdeveloped coping strategies that you created when young as a way to adapt, survive, and connect to your caregivers. However, sometimes, our greatest strengths can also get in our way. We want a natural, comfortable balance of what we are good at so our true selves can shine. We will take the time to unravel this with you as we work together.  We’ll assess your overall strengths, how they help you succeed in other areas of your life, and perhaps how they get in the way of your happiness.

I enjoy working with individuals dealing with the difficulties of relational trauma, developmental trauma, interpersonal relationships, anger, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.  I promote your optimal wellness by providing an environment of empathic responsiveness to create safety, understanding, acceptance, and a growth mentality.

My Background

I’m a psychotherapist and LCSW clinical supervisor with thirty years of experience. I’m the mother of two children, the grandmother of three, a lover of nature, and an animal enthusiast.

But at the end of the day, you want to know you’re working with someone who “gets” what it means to be an adult or teen struggling with trauma, anxiety, sadness, insomnia, intrusive memories, anger, and low self-confidence.

I get it because I’ve intentionally worked in all possible environments to understand all aspects of human suffering and experience.  Some of the settings I’m experienced in include battered women’s shelters, medical and psychiatric hospitals, prisons, juvenile detention centers, community-based outpatient treatment centers, emergency departments, psychiatric crisis services, and substance abuse/detox centers.

I also get it because my mother suffered from unresolved childhood trauma that caused her to have anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.  I’m grateful to my mother for all the learnings that have allowed me to develop compassion and a desire to help others thrive, grow, heal, and evolve.

I’m trained in a variety of treatment modalities, such as:

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

Gestalt Therapy

Psychodynamic Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
